Rustad encourages pro-activeness in Fort St. James

December 19, 2007

Old business was sorted out as talk turned to a positive future at the Dec. 12 District of Fort St. James council meeting, as Prince George-Omineca MLA John Rustad dropped by to give a year-end update of provincial activities.

Rustad informed council he has talked with ministers in Victoria about the closures of Stuart Lake Lumber and specifically Pope & Talbot, trying to generate some interest down south in the plight of residents in the north.

He said he was confident Fort St. James will survive the current economic hardships, just like they did in years past.

Chamber needs your support

December 19, 2007

The Fort St. James Chamber of Commerce has submitted a proposal to the Mountain Pine Beetle Community Economic Diversification Initiative.

This is a unique opportunity that provides 90 per cent of the project costs. We have named this community enhancement project ‘Embracing Our Roots’.

The key components focus on business front revitalization, murals depicting our history, turn-of-the-century light standards, and a walking path connecting the historic park to the centre of our downtown core, and connecting with the loop trail. Another component consists of a circle tour, which encompasses our outlying areas.

Eve's Essentials closes down:
Seeing as how no one else picked up this news either, we'll just mention that Eve's Essential our longtime Ladie's Wear and Lingerie shop, closed it's doors in November after many years of trying to find a buyer. Hopefully someone can step in to fill the role Eve did raising money for Seniors care, sitting on the Board of the Chamber, and keeping us all filled in with the latest gossip! Enjoy your gal's new Fields Cotton Bloomers guys, cuz asides from HBC woolen Union suits that's the only clothing you're gonna get in town!

Taxi taken for a ride:
Local rag missed this one entirely - from Opinion250 Nov 26
4 people are in custody after the only Taxi cab in Ft St James was stolen earlier today in Ft St James and recovered later in Prince George

Optimistic Math:
COFI President's quote from early November that the Northern BC mill shutdowns would cost about 1000 man days of lost work. Let's see: 350 P&T guys time 3 frigging months is about 22,000 lost man days just in the Fort....
And yes, the 'rumour' in the replies is true, liens were slapped on the logs in the logyard by local contractors owed money. from Opinion250

WTF?

Yeah: Welcome To Fort St. James, though the standard interpretation of WTF applies as well.
WTF am I doing here? WTF is happening here? WTF, have I entered the Twilight Zone.
See history in the making.
How one place can completely miss out on a national economic boom.
How there's still one place the rules don't apply or can be completely ignored.
See actual zombies, just like in the movies, every last Wednesday of the month. Shuffling, stumbling, mumbling and groaning. Don't be afraid! They just wanna ask if you "Godda dollah?"
